Last week I wandered over into the middle school. It turns out, in addition to regular classrooms and science classrooms (with tables hooked up to gas jets) and computer labs, there’s a whole floor of music rooms. I can occasionally hear music being practiced (echoes of being in Ms. Cohen’s violin class at Trotter School), but so far no sign of any students in something like this.
The first few administrative offices are in the same building as the English office. The Working Committee Office is Mr. Wu’s office—he’s one of three headmasters. The General Administration office is Mr. Pink’s office (don’t know his name).
And “erhv” is actually supposed to be erhu.

Mmm, take me directly to the Calligraphy Room.

I practice my calligraphy almost every day in the English office. So far, though, I don’t know who uses the Calligraphy Room.
Also, there are banners with pictures of Shakespeare and Beethoven in the music rooms! That’s got to be a good sign.
Somehow I hope that one day at recess, all of a sudden, the kids will break into a cha-cha all across the playground at recess. Someday…
